Meet the EKH-O Skate team

Keira Lena Penfold
EKH-O Skater

Why do you skate?

"I have been skateboarding since I was 7 years old, my inspiration to skateboard came from watching Sky Brown."

Favourite trick?

"First trick I landed was an Ollie, pop shuvit and then I learnt to kick flip, my fave trick at the moment is Kickflip to rock Fakie."

What are you working on right now?

"I’m currently trying to land a variable flip out of the bank and would like to get my heel flips more consistent."

Do you take part in competitions?

"I take part in skate jams in and around the south west and have recently competed in survival of the sickest mountain hawke (2025) and came 9th my first survival of the sickest comp."

What does skateboarding mean to you?

"Without skateboarding in my life I literally wouldn’t function as it’s a part of who I am. When I am on the board I feel free, it is my happy place."

When was your first time on a board?

"Disaster. A mate brought one over, we tried to skate like the pros in my back garden… it went horribly. I didn’t touch a board again until the early 2000s when the Tony Hawk bug hit me like everyone else. From that moment, I was hooked; primos, combos, freestyle tricks- and I’ve been chasing them ever since. My first local skate spots we titled ‘the QD steps’ and ‘Museum steps’ with my mates. But when they drifted off, moved on but I kept going… until around 2010 when I stepped away for a decade (I didn’t even own my own board!). I dabbled again in 2020, but it’s only in the past year that I’ve been skating consistently and loving every minute."

What is your style of skating?

"I’m all about freestyle with a touch of street and ledge. I like to call myself a “technical” skater (a ‘techy skater’) because it just fits better. I love planning tricks. I’ll stay up at night plotting lines, flicks, and flips, scribbling them down to try next session."

You’re a skate coach?

"These days, I coach at Shredder Skate School and hold Skateboard GB course certificates. Skating is my escape, my freedom, my de-compression zone… weather permitting, of course!"

Beyond the basics, what was your first trick?

"Probably a rail flip or pop-shuv. Ollies came surprisingly easily, and then followed pop-shuvs, but tre-flips?… don’t ask!"

What is your sweet spot trick?

"Rail (primo) combos, I could stand on a rail all day. But next up, I’m looking to push more with transition and build a bigger bag of flip tricks."

Why EKH-O?

"I’m so happy to be sponsored by EKH-O. It’s a company that doesn’t care about follower counts or selling decks with a pretty face. It’s not tied up in corporate ideals, EKH-O is a skate brand for skaters and artists, not a the typical skate business that says “you’re on the team because you have X followers” like so many others these days. EKH-O is unique, authentic and  genuinely cares about the skate community, that’s why I’m here."

When did you get your first board?

"I got my first board around age 4. No idea what I was doing of course, but it sparked something in me. My dad would say it “set me on my path.” I haven’t always had confidence in myself, but as I got older and my skills grew, skateboarding became more than a hobby. It taught me that nothing in life comes easy, but with skating, I could tackle anything, whether struggling at school or managing stress today. "

What does skating mean to you?

"Skateboarding has always been my outlet. On my down days, through anxiety and depression, I grab my board, have some fun, and forget the struggles. It’s given me self-confidence, happiness, and a sense of direction. I honestly don’t know where I’d be without it."

What was your first ever trick?

"My first trick was an ollie- classic. Fast forward to now, and I’m landing some of the craziest tricks you can imagine: late laser flips (under 360 flips), 360 shuv late flips, nollie late front foot heel flips… the list goes on. "

What is your favourite trick?

"A simple kickflip. There’s just something magical about the timing; the pop, the flick, the back foot catch, the landing. I love pressure flips as well, they are tricky for most, but that’s exactly why I do them."

What tricks are you working on right now?

"Right now, I’m focused on nollie big spin back smith reverts on a quarter. I’m one of those skaters who brings a street style to park skating, doing things most wouldn’t even think of. I like to keep it funky."

Why are you with EKH-O?

"Why wouldn’t I be? EKH-O is built by skaters, for skaters. Independent, full of passion, with amazing artwork and zero corporate nonsense. Every team member brings their own style, no cookie-cutter skating here! I’m thrilled to skate for EKH-O and I can’t wait to see what the future holds.

So yeah, that’s me in a nutshell. Stay safe, be brilliant, push yourself… and seriously, give EKH-O boards a try! PEACE OUT"
